Michael is a Chinese-Australian writer/director based in Los Angeles. He holds degrees in Business Economics and Computer Science from the University of New South Wales, Australia, and recently earned an MFA in Screenwriting at the world-renowned American Film Institute.

 

He was selected as a recipient of the Screencraft China-Hollywood Fellowship for his space sci-fi screenplay, RENDEZVOUS, which was optioned and developed by Chinese production company, Orb Media. RENDEZVOUS was also a Sci-Fi finalist in the Page International Competition and a Screencraft Sci-Fi/Fantasy Screenplay Competition finalist. His short film script, FLYOLOGY won 2nd prize in the Screencraft Short Script Competition, and his coming-of-age teen dramedy feature, NEWCOMER, was the Diversity category winner in the 2018 Final Draft Big Break Contest. His most recent historical horror feature, THE ANGEL, is a BlueCat Screenplay Competition finalist, and is currently being featured on the BlueCat website.

Since graduating from the AFI, the thesis film he penned, JIEJIE, was one of three films selected into the HBO Asian Pacific American Visionaries competition, where it won the Silver Award. It also won the Audience Award at the prestigious Short Shorts Film Festival in Tokyo, Japan and also won the Audience Award at the Taiwanese American Film Festival. His second thesis film that he worked on as story editor, THE DAY THAT, was awarded the Grand Prize for Best College Short at Flickers Rhode Island International Film Festival.

He worked as a staff writer on a sci-fi / romance streaming show for Alibaba / Media Asia, which will be premiered on streaming platforms, and is currently developing a thriller feature SHADOWING with a Hong Kong-based production company.
